A mobile worker is typically defined as a person that
spends at least 15-20% of their time away from their desk.
These workers move between different geographic locations,
between different networks, between different communication
devices, and even between different applications.
Mobility is especially useful in the following scenarios:
- A company has workers who need access to or generate data outside of
the office
- Collected field data tends to be time sensitive or especially
susceptible to manual errors
- Intensive paper process using forms or outdated
equipment
- Access to gathered information needs to be real-time
- Manually writing down information and the rekeying
it into another system causes delays and errors
Examples of Mobile Workers
- Portion of employees work in the field or on the
shop floor
Field service, sales, healthcare, factory, route
drivers, construction, real estate, etc.
- Employees capture information outside the office
Fill out forms, take credit card info, surveys, route accounting,
schedule tracking
- They need access to internal/back office systems
Inventory, accounting, extranet, time/attendance,
CRM, ERP
- Replacing “paper based processes” is key
Usually non-value added: rekeying forms into
different systems wastes time and resources
- Missing or inaccurate field information a problem
Missing forms, illegible writing, transposed numbers
- Need for timely access to captured field information
Surveys, job reporting, quality assurance, feedback
