SettlePou Mobile Solution Assessment

SettlePou is a highly respected law firm located in Dallas, TX.  Anyware was contracted to provide a Mobile Solution Assessment through a special program being offered by a national wireless carrier.

During initial meetings, the stakeholder’s were interested in ‘going mobile’ but wanted to ensure a positive rate of return on their investment.  They requested help in identifying those mobile processes that would bring the most business value.  Based on these discussions, Anyware performed the MSA with the following goals in mind:

  • Create a high-level strategic plan for mobile solution utilization at SettlePou

  • Improve customer service and responsiveness to customer communications

  • Provide a convenience factor to users that will enable them to work more productively and efficiently

  • Change “down-time” to productive time (i.e. waiting on court, client, etc.)

The MSA evaluated at a high level the current business requirements, IT architecture, social and environmental factors, and enabling mobile and communication technologies that might be used to satisfy the goals described above. The primary objective of this effort was to quickly understand and establish a clear picture of the current state and known future requirements of SettlePou operations and recommend an approach to enabling SettlePou mobile requirements.

Anyware assembled these requirements by interviewing key SettlePou Stakeholders in the Executive, Accounting, Information Technology, and Attorney organizations.  SettlePou’s mobile requirements have been identified to be:

  • Extend email, calendar, and contacts to mobile devices
  • Extend office voicemail to mobile devices (unified messaging) where it can be retrieved
  • Extend internet connectivity to mobile devices
  • Extend access to network files to mobile devices
  • Extend Document Management Software to mobile devices
  • Provide voice recording capability on mobile devices
  • Provide photography capability on mobile devices
  • Mobile device must be sleek and functional
    • Devices should not be overly bulky and space consuming
    • Devices must be very easy to use and maintain
  • Mobile device should provide voice and data functionality
  • Extend ability to enter time and billing records using to mobile devices
  • Any systems implemented must be highly secure and should have precautions taken to lock devices and prevent theft or viewing of information

The recommendations that followed the MSA were based upon the information gathered during these interviews and Anyware’s expertise in Mobile Technology and Information Technology in general.

Point 1: Extend email, calendar, contacts, and office voicemail to mobile devices

  • Anyware recommended that SettlePou utilize GoodLink.

Anyware has designated this as a HIGH priority requirement.

Point 2: Equip Users with a Mobile Device

  • Anyware recommended that SettlePou utilize a Treo 650 device utilizing Sprint’s PCS wireless network.
  • Anyware recommended that SettlePou utilize mVoice for voice recording on the Treo 650

Anyware has designated this as a HIGH priority requirement.

Point 3: Device and Software Security

  • Anyware recommended that SettlePou utilize CREDANT’s Mobile Guardian software.

Anyware has designated this as a HIGH priority requirement.

Point 4: Extend Enterprise Applications to a Mobile Device

  • Anyware does not recommended that SettlePou deploy a time and billing application at this time.
  • Anyware does recommended that SettlePou utilize the Hummingbird Enterprise Content Management solution as Hummingbird provides a mobile application that extends Hummingbird functionality to a mobile device.  We do add that this recommendation is solely based on Hummingbird’s mobile application and not on any of SettlePou’s internal Content Management requirements.
  • Anyware does not recommended that SettlePou utilize a packaged network file access solution as they are not secure enough to provide a complete enterprise class solution.

Anyware has designated this as a MEDIUM priority requirement.
